| The East Tennessee
Computer Society has added an e-mail list server. This will permit you to send one e-mail
message, and have it go out to all list members of the Society at once! It can be valuable
to carry out discussions, make announcements, ask questions, and just plain talk. It's
sort of a town meeting by e-mail. Your participation in this list is strictly
optional.
Here's how it works. You must join the mailing list, one
time only. NOTHING WILL HAPPEN UNTIL YOU JOIN. To join, simply send an e-mail to the
Webmaster with the subject being "Join mail list" and the message being your
first name and last name, such as: John Smith
along with you email address. Within a few days, you will be added to the
list.
(Note that you can have your name removed from the list at
any time. Just send an e-mail to the Webmaster with the subject line being "Remove
mail list" and the message being your first name and last name. Within a few days,
your name will be taken off.) Now that you are on the list, you can send messages to
it. Just e-mail to the address "etcsmail@etcs.org" Whatever you send to that
address will be automatically copied and re-sent to everyone who has joined the list!
When you receive a piece of e-mail from the list, you have
two options. You can just click your REPLY button. This will send a reply back only to the
original sender of the message. Alternately, you can click the REPLY button and then type
on the CC ("copy-to") line, "etcsmail@etcs.org". In this case, the
reply will go to everyone on the list.
A word on netiquette. These messages are going to be viewed
by a lot of people. Please keep the topics to that of interest to the membership of the
East Tennessee Computer Society: we don't want to create more spam out there! Using this
list for commercial purposes is prohibited. If you are an individual (or acting as such)
and want to sell your printer or a single item, fine. If you are a dealer or
have a home business, well, it's not fair to use this list. (Contact the ad
manager at The PC Register for a better way.) Also, strong language and
personal attacks are not permitted: we are family-friendly!
The Webmaster will have the right to remove
from the list any member from the list who abuses our rules, without further
notice. No political comments please! By using the list, you agree that the
ETCS, its officers, and its volunteers are not responsible for any
consequences of its use.
We want to thank DataWorld Network Services for their
generosity in making this e-mail list server available to our members. Please let
Robin
Galyan know how much you appreciate their support. And, let your Society officers know if
you like this new member benefit. This is your society!
